Tell us a little bit about yourself and your space.
I'm an interior design enthusiast who loves to create harmonious spaces throughout my home. My partner and I have similar tastes in style which made this home purchase an easy choice for us. We bought a 1960's side-split bungalow in Burlington, Ontario which was fully renovated in 2021. It was done in a modern farmhouse style, however our take with the decor offers a more rustic, elegant feel.
How would you describe your decorating style?
I love to incorporate pieces with age into a modern space, so I lean towards modern rustic. Bringing in a mix of old and new, with elements of nature. I tend to use metals and woods in their natural hue. Nothing looks too machine cut in our house with quite a few handmade furniture pieces, small touches of glass and minimal stains and paints. I love to celebrate the beauty of nature and elevate it where possible. Our dining room has a weathered, industrial style wooden table, which we've paired with transitional, tufted linen chairs. For wall art, our living room has 2 pieces, one with a deer on canvas and the other with wild grasses which remind me of Portugal. We also have antlers in our basement living room, with plenty of tapered candles to bring in elegance, and a bit of history.
Tell us about your favourite Urban Barn piece and why you love it
I personally love our Gershwin tables. They are a talking point for when guests visit the home as well! To me, the living room needed a warm metal with round edges to offset the sharpness of the very modern couch from EQ3. The colour and finish were absolute perfection and added an aged look I was going for. A huge plus is that they're multifunctional and we can move them around the space if needed when we have company.
