Care Guide: Natural Stone
Natural stone furniture, including marble and travertine, offer a naturally beautiful and durable surface. With proper care, your piece will stay stylish and functional for years to come.
Material Traits
Natural stone is a durable, organic material known for its unique veining, colour variation and texture. These natural characteristics are part of its charm and do not affect performance. While durable, natural stone is porous and not completely stain-proof. Spills—especially from acidic or deeply pigmented liquids—should be cleaned up promptly to avoid staining or etching.
Protection
- Spills should be cleaned up immediately, and moisture should never be allowed to stand on the surface. Due to natural stone’s porous nature, acidic or alkaline foods and liquids can stain and discolour the surface. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth to remove liquids immediately.
- Natural stone is often acid-sensitive. Avoid harsh cleaners containing acids, bleach, ammonia or abrasive agents as they may scratch and damage the surface.
- Always use coasters. Use trivets under hot items. Use felt pads or placemats under décor items to prevent scratching.
- Limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause discolouration.
Setup and Maintenance
- Always lift your furniture when moving it to prevent damage and avoid scratching floor surfaces.
- Felt tabs are recommended to protect both the furniture and your floor.
- Regular dusting is recommended.
- Spills and sticky spots should be cleaned up with a clean cloth and water. Wring the soft, clean cloth until it is nearly dry before wiping the surface. Ensure the surface is completely dry after cleaning.
By following these care instructions, you can help preserve the beauty and functionality of your natural stone furniture for years to come.
