Tell us a little bit about yourself and your space.
My name is Angie Milner. I live in Kitchener, Ontario with my husband of 20 years (this coming October), and two teenage daughters. I have been teaching Yoga for the last 6 years on and off, while managing ongoing renovations of our 2400 square foot 1980's back-split home. My love of home design and decor has made the renovations a fun project for me, even though at times it has been challenging. Recently I have taken on the study of photography, therefore Instagram has become the perfect platform for me to share the process of our home transformations using my new skills combined with my love for home styling. Our home was definitely a fixer upper when we bought it almost 4 years ago, however we have now transformed every square inch from top to bottom, and it has been exciting to share the progress. The bones of our home are solid, we love the layout, the neighbourhood is great, and it came with a pool which was a must for us. I acquired a passion for home decor and design from a young age, as my mother, and grandmother operated a home interior and design business, and I often tagged along on their adventures. Also, witnessing the transformations they both made to their own homes and cottages inspired me over the years. I just enjoy making things pretty and nice, and creating a comfortable space for my family and guests.
How would you describe your decorating style?
My style is primarily modern farmhouse. I have always gravitated towards earthy tones, and though decorating trends have evolved over the years, my general aesthetic remains pretty consistent. My home is a traditional back-split on the exterior, however I have created a cozy farmhouse vibe on the inside. I don't necessarily follow any design rules, I just choose what I love, and what makes sense in the space! For example, my last home was close to the beach, therefore I integrated a coastal theme into my home decor. Also, I look for inspiration through Pinterest, and Instagram and follow accounts that resonate with me. I love to work with a neutral palette, and like to add warmth using a variety of textiles and live plants.
Tell us about your favourite Urban Barn piece and why you love it.
I love every piece I own from Urban Barn, however if I have to choose a favourite, it would be the Mondo chair. When looking for the perfect size accent chair to flank our recently updated fireplace, the smaller 28" (condo size) option was the perfect fit. The charcoal is a great contrast against our white brick fireplace and compliments the space so well. It is also the most comfy chair EVER!
