Pet Friendly Upholstery
Many of us share our homes (and furniture) with our pets, and the way we see it, a happy home can be comfortable and pet-friendly. We believe contemporary, stylish furniture and pets can live in harmony with a few simple considerations – that’s why we’ve selected our most pet-friendly fabric options that are long-lasting, easy-to-clean and as stylish as they are strong. While we stand behind the durability of all our upholstery, we consider these fabric selection tips and compositions to be especially hard-wearing under pressure (or paws!).
Colour
Even with the cleanest of pets, your upholstery colour should be a key factor in fabric selection. When selecting a pet-friendly material, start with choosing a fabric or leather colour that’s likely to hide what you don’t want seen – think pet hair or that little bit of nature that gets tracked in from time-to-time.
Cut Pile & Tightly Woven Fabric
Fabrics with fibers that are tightly woven or with a low pile are perfect pet-friendly picks as opposed to loosely woven fabrics, like tweed. Pet claws are less likely to catch and snag, and your feline friends will be less likely to be tempted to use your furniture as a scratching post. Cut pile and tightly woven fabrics prevent pet hair from getting tangled in the fibers and releases shedded hair easily.
Microfiber
Synthetic materials, like microfiber are far easier to clean and keep that way compared to natural fibers – some are now designed to even mimic the look of traditional fabrics! Microfiber fabrics are soft and tightly woven, so claws won’t catch and snag.
Leather & Character Leather
A classic choice that only gets better with age, leather furniture is odour resistant and doesn’t attract pet hair. This pet-friendly material is highly durable and super forgiving when finished with oils and waxes that make it easy to buff out scratches and scuffs. If you like the look of character leather, this intentionally distressed look is perfect for camouflaging any scrapes your pet leaves behind.
Velvet
It doesn’t get plusher or more flexible than our velvet fabrics and what pet wouldn’t love a soft, plush piece of furniture. With a low pile, velvet is less likely to show pet wear and tear, and its fibers won’t trap hair. Meanwhile, dirt and crumbs can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth or lint roller.
Performance Fabrics
Stain-resistant, soft and ultra-durable, our performance fabrics look and feel similar to other fabrics, but are far superior when it comes to liquid spills – aka a temporary lapse for housebroken pets – and are as hard-wearing as they are comfortable and beautiful.
