How to set a Thanksgiving Tablescape
If you are looking to wow your family and friends this Thanksgiving, read on to learn my tips on how to set a beautiful holiday table. Using simple white foundational pieces and some festive seasonal décor, I created an elegant and warm Thanksgiving table. It was simple to put together and I am going to walk you through the process step by step!
Step 1: Gather your dinnerware
Think about how many people you are hosting for dinner and then gather the dishes, cutlery and glassware you will need. With Thanksgiving and then the Christmas holidays right around the corner, now is a good time to take inventory of your serving pieces and purchase items that you need for hosting guests. I love a classic white set of dishes because they are so versatile and go with anything. For this tablescape I chose the Savary 16-piece dish set.
Step 2: Create a centerpiece
A centerpiece is an important focal point when styling your table. This is where you can get creative and add a few beautiful elements to make your table sparkle. I love to start with a floral arrangement in the center and then add two beautiful candle holders on either side. I wanted to create a bit of height on the table so I used the tall Cillian Vase and added some hydrangeas from my garden. A simple bunch of flowers from the grocery store are just as effective. I fell in love with these candle holders while designing this particular tablescape and they were actually the jumping-off point for my colour scheme. I filled in the remaining space around these items with some faux eucalyptus stems because I love a little extra greenery.
Ps – don’t be afraid to embrace the season with some holiday-themed décor! I love mini pumpkins, either real or faux. I created a little vignette with some pumpkins, a Thanksgiving sign and some Fall-themed chocolates.
Step 3: Assemble your place settings
Think about what you will be serving for dinner and which dishes you will need. Determine the number of place settings you need and gather the necessary dishes, glassware and cutlery. Once you have assembled these items you can design your place setting. I started with a round placemat in a warm, caramel-coloured leather. Then, I layered a large plate, a smaller plate and a bowl. Next, I used gold flatware to complement the warm tones of the placemats and brown glass candleholders. I love these stemless wine glasses because they are both pretty and practical, they don’t tip as easily as traditional stemware. Finish it off with a napkin resting on the bowl, I like the loose and casual feel of tying my napkins in a knot. You could also opt for these fun “conversational napkins”, such a clever idea and they also make a great hostess gift. I added some chocolate to each setting (it’s a holiday after all!) and chocolate is always a good idea. Once you have designed your ideal setting, repeat it all around the table!
