Tell us a little bit about yourself and your space.
Hi, I’m Morgan — a BC girl now living in Calgary with my fiancé and our 4-month-old son. I’ve worked in the service and events industry for years, so creating a home that feels welcoming and easy to host in has always been super important to me.
We knew this house was the one the moment we walked through the front door. Funny enough, it was actually the very first home we viewed, and we put in an offer that same evening. We instantly fell in love with the open floor plan, the high ceilings with exposed beams, the beautiful kitchen, and of course, the front porch. One of our first purchases was rocking chairs for the front porch. This home felt so warm, inviting, and a place that our family was able to grow in!
How would you describe your decorating style?
When I first started decorating our home, I definitely leaned more into the modern farmhouse style. But over the years, our home has evolved to feel much more west coast inspired. I’m drawn to soft neutrals, natural textiles, warm wood tones, and pieces that create a calm, cozy atmosphere. I want our home to feel relaxed and welcoming but still comfortable. Homes are meant to be lived in!
Tell us about your favourite Urban Barn piece and why you love it!
My favourite piece right now is the Baywood Wall Art. It completely finished our living room and tied the whole space together. I actually found it while shopping with my sister at Urban Barn for pieces for her home. The moment I saw it, I immediately knew exactly where it was meant to go in our house. I didn’t take it home that day — I went home to think about it and ended up ordering it to my local Calgary store a few hours later. I feel like that’s when you know the piece is right for your home - when you can’t stop thinking about it! My mom used to always say “do you like it or do you love it” because if you love it, you always take it home.
Which pieces were featured in your winning image?
Jerusha Counter Stools, I really wanted a statement piece for our kitchen so the counter stools were my first purchase and I built from there.
Which Urban Barn location is your favourite to shop at and why?
My favourite Urban Barn location is the West Hills/Signal Hill store in Calgary. It’s closest to our home, so it’s become my go-to location whenever I’m looking for inspiration. I love just going in with my baby to browse and see what the Urban Barn décor team is up to!
