Care Guide: High-Gloss Finish Furniture
High-gloss finish furniture offers a sleek, modern look with a reflective surface that enhances any space. With proper care and maintenance, your piece will maintain its shine and remain beautiful for years to come.
Material Traits
High-gloss finishes are designed to create a smooth, polished appearance that reflects light and enhances the overall look of the furniture. This finish is durable, but it is more sensitive to scratches, fingerprints, smudges, heat, and harsh chemicals than matte or textured surfaces. Fine dust particles can also create micro-scratches if wiped improperly.
Protection
- Dust regularly with clean, high-quality microfiber cloth with a smooth weave. Cleaning with other types of cloth might add more scratches to the surface. Wipe gently in one direction to reduce the risk of micro-scratches.
- Do not scrub the surface vigorously or use rough cloths, as this may result in permanent fogging and micro-scratches.
- Clean spills immediately. Do not allow liquids to sit on the surface.
- Use coasters and felt pads under décor items to prevent scratches and friction damage.
- Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources, which may cause fading, blistering, cracking, or peeling.
- Avoid excessive humidity or sudden humidity changes, as this may cause the wood frame to expand and crack.
- Do not place furniture in damp areas such as bathrooms or uncovered balconies.
Setup and Maintenance
- Always lift your furniture when moving it to prevent damage and avoid scratching floor surfaces.
- Felt tabs are recommended to protect both the furniture and your floor.
- For fingerprints and light smudges, wipe gently with a slightly damp microfiber cloth then dry immediately with a clean dry cloth to prevent water spots.
- For stubborn stains such as grease, use a small amount of mild neutral dish soap diluted in water, then wipe again with clean water and dry thoroughly.
- For adhesive residue, spot clean with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth, then wipe clean and dry immediately.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, strong acids or alkalis, acetone, bleach, paint thinners, and scouring pads, as these may permanently damage the finish.
- Every few months, apply a water-based, silicone-free, non-abrasive high-gloss furniture polish (specially formulated for lacquer finishes) to help maintain shine and reduce fingerprint buildup. Furniture polish are commonly marketed for use on pianos.
By following these care instructions, you can help preserve the shine and smooth finish of your high-gloss furniture.
