Fighting zombies is just one super smart dining hack our #UBdish Week Three winner, @gypsymommy, employs to get her two little guys to eat their veggies:
“Sometimes the only way to make life simple is to get a little sneaky,” shares Lexia (aka @gypsymommy) of her and husband Mike’s wily ways in the kitchen. “With two busy little boys (Rory the zombie slayer, age 6 and Miles, age 3), dinner time can be a little hectic – and the meal not always a crowd-pleaser.”
“I kind of came up with the zombie story out of the blue – and it worked! We were having Shepherd’s Pie and peas that night, and the peas were not a hit. So, I turned it into a bit of a game, and Rory got totally into it. He’s always up for a good challenge!”
Citing www.todaysparent.com, www.yummymummyclub.ca and www.foodnetwork.ca among her go-to family dine time destinations, the born & bred Vancouverite shared a few more kid-centric dining hacks with us:
- Grating vegetables into sauces for full flavor and lots of fibre
- Making happy faces, designs and letters out of vegetables on a plate (So, you CAN play with your food!)
Who knows? She might just pick up some smart new tableware with her gift card to go with all of those bright ideas. Broccoli beware & bon appetit, Lexia!
