The wheels on the plane are still hot from our return from Shanghai’s annual furniture fair. Feeling inspired and excited to share what we’ve found, here are a few furniture trends that we look forward to introducing to Canada in 2016. It’s going to be an exciting year for home décor!
New and improved high performance velvet-textured fabrics are the ultimate in casual luxury and continue to be making an appearance everywhere we look. These fabrics are so inviting; it’s just an added bonus that they’re easy to take care of and long lasting too. Adding a cozy fabric to a more classic furniture silhouette is the ideal way to add comfort without compromising on style. Try not rubbing your hand against these fabrics while walking through our stores today and into the new year.
A Softer Industrial
We’ve seen the industrial style have a strong presence in the design world for a few years now but what we like most about the latest interpretations of the style is that they lend themselves very well to most décor styles. Subtle industrial details add high impact on the right piece of furniture but won’t stand out like a sore thumb in your space when mixed with the other styles you also love.
It’s Not Leather, It’s Not Fabric
Consumers continue to shape trends and when they demand something, we listen and do everything in our power to deliver! As consumers, we continue to demand, among other things, affordability and high style. Often these two things don’t go hand in hand, but when it comes to upholstery, the growing trend of polyurethane upholstery is making it much easier for us to deliver as a retailer. Our Fillmore Sofa quickly became a best seller when introduced in a material that not all consumers fully understood. We were unsure of how our customers would react but we’re glad we took the risk. We look forward to continuing to grow this category in our stores in 2016 and offer a unique value to our customers.
Mid Century Modern isn’t just a catch phrase of 2015, it’s a style that is here to stay through 2016. The look has been reinterpreted into some very sophisticated looks showcased this month in Shanghai. Mashing MCM styling with rustic or industrial finishes continues to be a very strong look in furniture.
It’s All in the Details
In today’s marketplace, there seems to be endless options for the consumer to shop for home décor and furniture. Aside from making sure that we are introducing our customers to the most unique product at the best value offered in the marketplace, one of the ways we hope to stand out in the eye of today’s savvy consumer is to devote a great deal of our attention to the fine details in the products we sell. From detailed stitching to dovetail joints to a unique hardware finish, no detail was overlooked. We’ve worked hard on sourcing some very high quality product for Canada and can’t wait to present it to you!
A New Touch and Feel
We were very inspired by some of the new colour tends, finishes, shapes, fabrics and materials we found in Shanghai. From very different wood finishes to the unexpected combination of finishes and textures, we hope that you’ll take a second look too. This is the good stuff!
