It’s DIY time friends!
It may be a bit cheesy but I get a kick out of inspirational and clever quotes. I think that home décor products (and there are lots) with sayings like “If you’re looking for a sign, this is it!” or the famous “keep calm and carry on” are awesome and encouraging. Of course lately, if I haven’t painted, sanded, or altered it in some way, it’s not for me…. which leads me to my next project.
WARNING: This version of the DIY project requires you to make many, MANY holes in your walls. If this is not an option for you, simply affix it onto plywood or mdf first and then hang or lean on the wall.
Before commencing my DIY, I thought it best to brief my husband on the plans.
ME: “So ummmm, what do you think if I putafewhundredtinyholesinthewallinthebedroomthisweekend?”
ME: “Welllllll….. there is this cool thing I saw and I wanted to do….. you know…. whatever….. I’d need to make some holes in the wall in the bedroom but it’s so cute…..”
HUBS: “HAHAHA. Ya, sure. The wall is old and crappy anyway.”
ME ON THE INSIDE: Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
So off I go!
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:
STEP 1: Print your saying in the size you want displayed on your wall. If you want to fill in your letters as much as I did, you may want to choose a thicker font and bold it.
STEP 2: Using a measuring tape to ensure that the spacing is correct and that your image is level, tape your printed letters to the wall.
STEP 3: Hammer in nails to outline each one of the letters. You may not need as many nails as you think, just enough to do a good outline and see the shape of the letter properly.
STEP 4: Remove the paper that you previously taped down.
STEP 5: Using yarn or thick string, trace the outline of each individual letter and fill it in with a pattern of your choice. The possibilities for patterns are endless so use your imagination! I used a very random pattern and then outlined each letter several times. I then used a fly tying glue (super glue is fine) to adhere the string at the end.
STEP 6: Trim any excess string and enjoy!
